If you make a fancel of me I'll hunt your down and shoot you.

Suboshi, TV episode 27

What can I say about this sketch set? Oh my goodness, where to even start.

All I know by now is that you really have to cherish any cel or sketch you can get your hands on of these twins, because they are so very, very few. It's so difficult when your favourite character(s) are one of the hardest to find from a series, despite the fact that they were in numerous episodes. As such, I've come to learn that every piece of artwork that I can bring home of the boshi-twins deserves 200% love and attention.

I feel so very fortunate to have finally gotten ahold of SOMETHING that has Suboshi with his beloved weapon, the Ryuuseisui. These deadly spinning balls can burn a hole right through his enemies, and are directed by his own spiritual energy. I'm also thrilled that this comes from such a rememberable and pivotal part of the FY series, as he faces off against Tamahome for the very first time. The maniacal expression on his face well describes his emotions during this fierce battle. Suboshi fights to avenge his twin brother Amiboshi, whom he believes to be for dead. Tamahome fights to avenge his freshly murdered family, which was wrought by Suboshi's bloody hands. It's the wrath of two tormented souls dueling to the death against the other.

I'm really in love with this entire sketch set! The scan you see above is actually three sketches merged together thanks to photoshop. The first layer is Suboshi and two of the ropes, and the other two layers are each one of the Ryuuseisui balls. I put it all together like this because it best represents the entire layout of the scene.

This set is the genga half - the rough sketches. If you compare this to the screencap, you can see some subtle differences in a few spots. I would assume the dougas are with the actual cel. But I'm more than happy to have obtained the usually more artistic gengas - the artwork here is just splendid!
